Any staircase with three or more steps should have a handrail going all the way up the open side. A good height for the handrail on a stairway is about thirty-four inches. If you ever have the chance, do visit the Loretto Chapel and witness an engineering miracle that is one of the most magnificent "man" built works of wood art in the world.
